The Flip Book Maker is a fun program anyone can use to show off their digital photos and videos in a creative way. The software is digital magazine software and flippingbook publisher too.

Flip Book Maker’s visual layout and labeled buttons make navigating easy. Uploading pictures for my first flip book was a cinch. I was able to rearrange them easily by grabbing and dragging each pic.

The program also let me add music with a few clicks. I didn’t have much music on my laptop, so I was glad Flip Book Maker came with 9 looping tracks. Some were jazzy and relaxing, while others had a futuristic, techno vibe. Flip Book Maker let me preview each track before deciding.

To look through my pictures in detail, all I had to do was click the “Properties” button and Flip Book Maker showed me each photo at a larger size, along with its file information. I easily removed the pictures I didn’t need. Saving my progress took just a few more clicks.

Then came the fun part: making my flip book pretty! There were 28 template options to choose from, including about half a dozen holiday themed designs. The artwork was so cute! Many of the templates had colorful, cartoony designs, although some were also simple and professional-looking. I chose one called Cherry Blossom, which had anime-style artwork.

Virtually every part of my flip book was customizable. For example, I had the option of replacing the default Cherry Blossom background with a picture from my computer. I could also choose whether this picture would be tiled, centered, or stretched to fit.

Flip Book Maker let me decide which buttons I wanted for the bottom bar of my flip book—these were used  for things like moving from picture to picture and toggling sound. Again, there were dozens of choices. I decided on transparent buttons and was able to quickly switch those in instead of keeping the default Cherry Blossom template buttons.

This program let me tweak all the details of my flip book, including the title, font face, font size, background color around the cover page, background color around the other pages, and more. I was also allowed to use images as backgrounds for the pages of the flip book. Using an image made each picture look framed. I was even able to add a table of contents to make my flip book look more like a paper book.

Flip Book Maker also had half a dozen special effects to choose from, including floating soap bubbles and falling raindrops, to customize my book even more.

Next, I played with Flip Book Maker’s settings. The program offered a full range of options for photo quality, from original quality to 100 pixels. At this screen, I chose to automatically loop my flip book and make the pages turn by them.

After decorating my flip book, Flip Book Maker made publishing it hassle free. It showed me a preview of my flip book along with five options for saving it.

The first option was to save my flip book as an .swf file, which is the Adobe Flash format. I could also save it as an .exe file, which is what computer programs use—there was even an option to create an auto run file to burn to a CD.  I could also save my book in .html format, which would turn it into a webpage, or send my creation via e-mail. Lastly, I was given the option to make my flip book into a screensaver.

I decided to e-mail my flip book to myself. Flip Book Maker saved my book as an .swf file, opened Windows Live Mail 2011, automatically attached the file, wrote an e-mail title, and inserted a simple message for me. Wow! Sending my book took just a few seconds.
